Christel Danna from Detroit, MI, USA writes: January 27, 2003 at 19:26:44 In June 2001,while I was on my way to MN to visit family, I drove to Hancock to discover for myself the Finnish community I had heard of since I was a child. I had never been to the Keweenaw and found Hancok to be a delightful city! I wandered into Maxine's Gift Ship on Quincy St. Maxine and I had a lovely conversation that ended with her recommending I drive to "Copper Harbor" since I had time before I cont. my drive to MN. I followed her directions...41 to 26. I fell in love with the Keweenaw immediately. My two favorite places were combined here in the northern most reaches of MI: Lake Superior and Southeastern Finland. I sometimes feel an emotional pull to just drop everything and make the drive to the Keweenaw just to feel the peace, the timelessness of the land, rocks, and lake. (My husband and I did just that last October) Your beautiful photos reminded me of all of this and perhaps looking at them will tide me over until I can get back. Thanks for sharing your gift. |
